Glorious rolling waves, rolling hills sweep across the work. I am fascinated by the shapes and forms of landscape, how even the most complex landscape is can be broken down into a series of simple shapes. This is a statement work in a series exploring landscape’s colour, form, texture and technique.
This work is in oils, worked entirely with a palette knife. Working with a knife, on unstretched linen, the canvas gives the work the appearance of texture – yet is completely flat, and devoid of brush marks. Working this way is one of the reasons I love oils – the ability to test and stretch the medium’s capabilities – and mine as the artist.
NB. this work will be shipped from Australia as an unstretched canvas and will need stretching (and framing if desired) by the purchaser. It measures 152 cm x 91 cm after stretching.
