Pissaro is one of those Impressionists that it’s all too easy to forget about, but in Basel’s Kunstmuseum he’s been high on their list for a long time. In fact the first impressionist picture they ever acquired (back in 1912) was his Un coin de l’Hermitage, Pontoise.
Since then they’ve got the bug and now have a total of eight of his works. So it’s not surprising that they are finally rectifying the lack of an exhibition of his work in Switzerland since the 1960s.
