The Majestic Matterhorn, is also called the “jewel of the Swiss Alps”and certainly the most famous mountain in Europe!
A Swiss icon, the unique shape and topography of the 4,478m high Matterhorn, and its ability to shift mood as the light
and weather change during a day, make it an endlessly fascinating subject, and one of my favourites to paint. It always
reminds me of flying around the peak in a helicopter, seemingly so close as to be able to reach out and touch it and
from where the true immensity of the mountain can be truly appreciated.
I love painting this mountain. The challenge of creating something beautiful just from blob of white, black and plenty shades of grey paint is always fun and exciting. I also love the contrast between the two different techniques. Brush for smooth clouds, and palette knife for the mountain.
I love to look at it and imagine to be there either to climb or ski it, it always takes me back to Zermatt…
